AI in Motion Symposium

The AI in Motion: Shaping the Future of Mobility and Safety Symposium was held on May 15-17, 2024 in Austin, Texas. The event was co-organized by PacTrans in collaboration with the Texas A&M Transportation Institute and the Southern Plains Transportation Center. Over 150 people attended this event, which was sponsored by Amazon Web Services, AECOM, ASCE T&DI, and others. Attendees also had the opportunity to submit posters for presentation. Special guests included Matt Van Horn, founder of Lyft; Marc Williams, TxDOT Executive Director; Tim Gatz, Oklahoma Department of Transportation Executive Director; and Monica Tibbits-Nutt, Massachusetts Department of Transportation Secretary. The highlight of the symposium was a tour of the local Tesla Giga factory and a tour of the University of Texas at Austin: Texas Advanced Computing Center.

Members of SPTC were in attendance, both as planning committee members and attendees. Tim Gatz participated in a panel in which state DOT's shared their hopes for AI research and how it can be applied to the transportation sector.
