Representatives from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s OST-R Office and other members of the Southern Plains Transportation Center visited the Southern Plains Transportation Center on the University of Oklahoma campus on May 1, 2024. Special guests from the OST-R Office included Dr. Robert Hampshire, Dr. Firas Ibrahim, and Caesar Singh.
The group received an extensive tour of SPTC and their partner institutions, including the National Weather Center. They also visited the Rawls Engineering Practice Facility, viewing all the facility has to offer current engineering students; the Fears Lab, viewing the research SPTC and OU are doing with concrete as well as the Pave 3D 8K system from OSU; the Radar Innovations Lab, where they received a demo of radar attached to a drone for seeking out bridge and road damage; and the Oklahoma Department of Transportation’s Oklahoma Transportation Library, which houses ODOT’s research collection and partners with other transportation libraries around the nation. This special visit included demonstrations of the technology SPTC researchers are utilizing to improve roadways nationwide, as well as poster viewings and presentations of current research projects being undertaken by SPTC.
SPTC appreciates all who visited, as well as those who led the tours and highlighted SPTC’s research efforts during this research funding cycle. We hope you will visit our website again soon to see what we have in store for the future.
